Abstract
Colonial government's policy with Balinization policy of Bali brings an enormous influence in the development of Balinese culture and also in social systems of the society. Since from the beginning, this policy itself has contained a paradox, on one side to conserve Bali from the unchanged of the exotic was dreamed by the orientalist. But on the other hand the currents of modernization that brought along with the positionofBalias atourismdestinationareawhichhasbeguninthe 1920s, hasoccurredinthe development of modernization and even transformation on Balinese culture. The development of Pita Maha art has showed transformation process of Balinese art that has been begun since the 1930s. The developments in the context ofPitaMaha art show of traditional arts and then grew up in a new form, and while still showing the sustainability of the traditional visual language. Tradition fine arts in the hands of Pita Maha artists transformed into a more secular art, is no longer sacred for offerings only, and experienced in growth in terms of technique, style and themes, from Hindu mythology to social society themes.
