Abstract

Rejang Pusung dance is a sacred dance in Pakraman Geriana Kauh village, Selat district, Karangasem regency. Its unigueness lies in the selection of dancers, the simplicity of mation and headdress based on orange peel of jeruti. Seing the uniqueness that is owned then it is deemed necessary to be documented and researched. But in writing about Rejang Pusung dance performances that are related to the Ngusaba Goreng ceremony still very minimal. This research is considered important to do. As for the two subject matter studied, mamely about the from and function of Rejang Pusung dance. This research aims to determine the shape and function of Rejang Pusung dance. So that the benefits of the result of this research can be used as village archives that can be read by the next generation tomaintain its sustainability. In the discussion using written sources and two theories namely the theory of aesthetics and functional theory. This research uses qualitative research methods with data collection technigues used those are, observation, interview, study bibliography, study documentation, so obtained the following results. Rejang Pusung dance perpormed in the form of dance group with a characteristic found in the hair of dancers carried and danced by young children. This dance is performed at Puseh temple, Pajenengan temple, Dalem temple, and Dadia temple accompanied by collaboration of baleganjur, kenyong and gambang. Rejang Pusung dance has two function namely primary function and secondary function. The primary function is as a means of ritual, as a self-entertainment and as an aesthetic presentation for its secondary function is as a binder of solidarity of community groups as a medium of mass communication as a medium of therapy and as a medium of meditation.
