Abstract

In line with the development of tourism, the function of gallery is more directed for the tourist attraction, which demands an increasing professionalism to response to the market and to avoid the market trap. Hence, Gallery should not a mere financial institution, but should also serve as an agent of offering values by making the gallery as part of business profession and creative idealism. Base on this idealism, interaction between gallery and painters must not merely be perceived as cooperation between producer and seller or between labor and boss. Their connection must be based on mutual need, in which the existence of gallery is impossible without painters. Similarly, without gallery painters will lose an important connecting channel that links their works to the public, whether economically or dialogically. This research provides a descriptive substance regarding the function and role of the Balinese paintings galleries as a tourist attraction, education, marketing, competitive area, documentation and appreciation. Accordingly, Balinese galleries are very important as the patron for continues production. Painters rely on the gallery that buys their works.
