Abstract

This article is to divide a few things related to the influenced caused by foreign culture to the development of music in Indonesia, especially in Bali and Java. Started from Chinese music influence, then the Hindu and Budha culture, the followed Islam and western culture coming to Indonesia, giving a big influence to the Indonesian music. We can see clearly in Bali and Java, there are a lot of arts and musical instrument that are brought to Indonesia that are still kept well. Besides that, Bali and Java since 1930’s has become target for researcher that are interested in the culture. Their arrival not just giving influence to Indonesian music, but also giving motivation to artist and composer on creating their compositions.
