Abstract

Summary Ornamental design and traditional artistic painting is one of the parts of which had changed since 1920 – 1930, and develops in Bali. In the past, the development of ornamental design and Traditional Artistic Painting is called as Traditional Art or Traditional Classical Fine Arts of Bali, where traditional classical fine arts functions as temple decoration or decoration of ceremonial tools of Hindu Religion and decoration of royal equipment, therefore traditional classical fine arts is a service and devotion in nature both for spiritual as well as social interest. In 2009, Indonesian Government launched an activity of Creative Indonesia Year as one of the implementations of Creative Economical Development Based Creative Industry 2009 – 2025. Creative Industry is a manifestation of efforts to search for sustainable development through creativity as well as competitive economical climate and has renewed resources. High Education through long term development vision 2003 – 2010 emphasizing on effective national competitive power will be attained through research. To support Creative Industry Year 2009, the implementation of research on fine art, research on “Ornamental Design and Traditional Fine Arts supporting Creative Workmanship (Kriya)” will give additional value to the workmanship (kriya) and this additional value will affect economical field. To support competitive foundation of Creative Industry and creative workmanship application based creative art systematically, participative and sustainable, creative industry still needs various principle matters: (1) concept and operational on creative industry, creative workmanship, ornamental design and traditional artistic paintings which is appropriate with contextual condition of Creative Industry as urban community, workmanship product with self identity of Bali and multicultural in nature; (2) Inventory of Database on the existence, development and distribution of the elements of Ornamental Design and Traditional Artistic painting; (3) contextual conditions of various creative elements of artists and craftsmen. On the other side, the life of artists and craftsmen will be modern and global. Examples of research results specifically related to ornamental design and traditional artistic painting and creative industry are Inventory of Positive and Negative Culture (Expert Group, 2003); The Study on Traditional Living House of Bali Age (Gde Rai Remawa, 2008); The Study on the Use of Natural Stone as Handicraft in Bali (Ni Made Sunarini, 2008); Computer Desk Design with Effective Technology (Ngurah Ardana, 2008); Silver Handicrafts in Celuk (Ngidep Wiyasa, 2008). Publication of similar researches is important to form insight, opportunity for comparison and information supply as well as accuracy data with high reliability and validity. Problem, based on the problem of conception, lack of accuracy as well as limited knowledge on potency, opportunity and obstacles in creative industry development, creative workmanship and creative art, the research strives to overcome the problems as follows: (1) the concept of creative industry, creative workmanship and creative art based creation, superior art design have not been powerful, earthly and appreciative; (2) What are the contents of creative industry, creative workmanship and creative art formally theoretically as well as empirically; (3) lack of structured data on the existence and distribution of creative workmanship and creative art elements; (4) limited knowledge on potency, opportunity and empirical obstacles on the existence of Ornamental Design and Traditional Artistic Painting on creative industrial product and creative workmanship. This research is aimed to: (1) make data on the concept of development, application of Ornamental Design and Traditional Artistic Painting in scientific foundation and operational of creative workmanship products; (2) compose data base of ornamental design and traditional artistic painting based aesthetic, additional value on creative industry and workmanship, according to inventory model, narrative on forms, functions, meaning as research report; (3) analyze ornamental design and traditional artistic painting contextually, development of creative industry and workmanship based sustainable art. Benefit: (1) the compiling of the concept of creative industrial design, ornamental design and Traditional Artistic Painting as a relevant art and operational in the local area; (2) the availability of data on the development of ornamental design and creative traditional artistic painting supporting and revitalizing research initiative and creativity; (3) the presentation of potency, opportunity and obstacles to encourage and optimize artist participation with craftsmen. The Scope of Research, the substance includes: (1) data collection, manifestation of creative concept, the scope of creative industry and creative workmanship. The scope of creative concept constitutes synergic creative ethos (soul and spirit), additional value economically, technology and art supported by Human Resources and craftsmen, creative craftsmen; (2) the scope of research includes data collection on creative workmanship business group, its development specifically in Bali, such as the opportunity of development of creative workmanship supporting creative tourism, collecting data of 5 (five) creative workmanship business groups: (1) carving workmanship; (2) sculpture workmanship; (3) artistic painting workmanship; (4) textile workmanship; (5) ceramic workmanship. Other fine art workmanship is not involved in the research; (3) scope of systemic provides corridor on creative workmanship business which is positive and constructive in nature, corridor of design and qualified creation are framed by: (1) specific characteristic, high quality and identity, (2) powerful in Human Resource basis, community and institutional, (3) creative ethos and creative diffuse, (4) has additional value economically, technologically and culturally, (5) open for local, national and international market acculturation. Method of Research. The research activity takes place in 7 (seven) regencies and 1 (one) municipality in Bali Province. The object of research of this research activity is to study workmanship products related to the application of motive development of ornamental design and creation of traditional artistic painting of 5 creative workmanship business groups developing well up to the present in Bali. The notion of creative workmanship business product here is limited to the form of handicraft products (workmanship) designed/created by the doers of the business activities started from production (both individually done of all activities as well as partly done and partly is executed by other parties) up to product marketing. Research population. Based on the information from Industry and Trade Service Office of Bali Province, it is known that the potency of workmanship sector of carving handicraft, sculpture, artistic painting, textile and ceramic in Bali area are in the sum of 5286 persons. Based on the description, further it is decided the amount of research sample proportionally in the sum of 105 (2%) work products from total creative workmanship business: carving workmanship, sculpture workmanship, traditional artistic painting workmanship, textile workmanship and available ceramic workmanship.
