Abstract
Environmental choreography is the revitalization of the creation method of the traditional dances which are renewed based on the current life. It strengthens the local geniuses already implemented by the previous natural artists who could not be separated from their nature and environment and understood the life aspects which could enrich the art conceptions. Environmental choreography is focused on a new creative point of view or approach towards a new phenomenon. Research using various new approaches should initiate art creations. It is similar to what is done when conducting qualitative research; the data are directly obtained from the field and are then analyzed using references. In addition, the theories and methods used should
be adjusted to the topic under study. Ethnographic research and participatory observation methods are needed. Environmental choreography may lead to a science-oriented creation method, a process of artistic collaboration with academic acts. Such a method facilitates the learning process in postgraduate studies (master and doctorate programs) in Art Creation. On one hand, it also transmits academic knowledge to community as the object of the study; on the other hand, a choreographer may also learn from community.
Keywords: Environmental choreography, conventional choreography, and revitalization.
