Abstract

The development of tourism in Mengwi village with Taman Ayun Temple as its tourist destination is not only economically oriented but also social oriented. Being social oriented means that tourism is developed to enhance the conducive relationship between the Mengwi Palace and its surrounding environment. The patron-client relationship which used to weaken as a result of the conversion of agricultural land into complexes of residences and offices has been reestablished by developing arts as tourist attractions and Mengwi Palace as the center. The tourist activities performed at the palace, the patron-client relationship between the palace and its surrounding environment has been conducive again based on the reciprocity principle.
