Abstract
The puppetry world is known with some styles, or gagrag, such as Surakarta, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, Banyumasan styles and others. The appeareance of the puppetry styles in pakeliran javanese shadow puppet purwa perfomance (the perfomance by using the fabrique screen special for the shadow puppet), can not be separated from the Javanese Palace life, Mataram Palace which is divided into two kingdoms, namely Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace, and Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Palace gave the impacts of the existence of Surakartaand Ngayogyakarta puppetry style, and also the existence of populist puppetry style. Both the styles have spesific features and puppetry rule which is still valid until now especially related to aesthetic norm. However, in the progress from both of the styles are melted, affect each other in the pakeliran perfomance of shadow puppet, as a result the puppetry world is become lustereous even the styles of the populist puppetry have already been accepted by the shadow puppet lover, as a result the tradition of this populist puppetry colors and influences the pakeliran of palace style. It happened because of the aculturation and modernization process which causes the social changes and value system changes for the shadow puppet society. The influence from society to the puppetry world affect the form of pakeliran which acommodate society taste, moreover the shadow puppet perfomance was only tradition of art and seriously art, now have changed into populer art.
