Abstract
BTS stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan or Bulletproof Boy Scouts is a South Korean boyband who made their first debut under Big Hit Entertainment. BTS is present in Indonesia, one of which is through a music video. Music video is a video that is combine music with visual media. It became a debate when BTS presented new perspective for male images in their music videos, which tended to show men who seemed closer to feminine impressions. The Codes and Covention theory states that music videos can be seen as a form of resistance to something, then the BTS’s music videos can be seen as a form of resistance to toxic masculinity. How BTS displays resistance to toxic masculinity through their music videos is studied using qualitative�interpretive methods. One of the forms of resistance is the element of Appearance Language. BTS consistently presents a “non-binary” identity to Appearance Language in its music videos. This is done by presenting BTS members who wear make-up, accessories and clothes that are not limited to certain gender norms. BTS doesn’t hesitate to show feminine side such as dancing gracefully, showing weakness, crying scenes and even showing the closeness between members that leads to romance.
