Abstract

Abstract In this era of globalization, architecture in Bali has grown rapidly. Influences from outside Bali brings changes toward the form of Balinese architecture. A freedom phenomenon in expressing aesthetic value gets a bigger portions and presses the elements of the local culture. Problem arises when something that is still firm holding the natural (traditional) character meets with other forms of profit (modern). As if eliminating the regionalism and displaying the internationalism (Prijotomo, 2008:17). This research is a descriptive research, taking several samples based on purposive sampling in the shopping complex Galeria Kuta-Bali. In this retail building complex, there are many kinds of hybrid building whose local Balinese elements are only stickers that are shown through the use of Balinese architecture ornaments. This research lead to the conclusion that the retail building on the selected objects "feels difficulty" in majority to display the local Balinese architecture in its efforts to realize the concept of hybrid, combined with modern architecture. This research finding formulation of recommendation about a consideration in designing a retail building with a hybrid concept that unifies the modern architecture and the traditional one.
